Item # R4 | |
Silver Reproduction of Imperial Roman Navy ring. 2nd to 3rd cent AD. This ring has the traditional anchor flanked by stylized dolphins. From
the viewing of dozens of Roman legionary items with this symbol it appears
that the Anchor flanked by Dolphins was used by the Epi Beta (Fleet Legionaries
or Marines) of Legion II Adiutrix. This legion had been formed by Vespasian
from Sailors and Marines from the Western Fleet Headquartered at Ravenna.
It appears that the II Adiutrix earned it's eagle as the legion was retained
by Vespasian. This legion was later stationed in Britain but was then
moved to various locations on the Danube. At least a portion of the legion
seems to have been doing River Patrolling and working with Legion IV Flavia
Felix. The original ring is now in a private collection in San Diego USA,
but Roman Officer has retained the mold for this item. This Ring is made
of 925 silver from a mold of the original item. Hey, put this ring on
and Sail the Danube looking for Barbarian Trouble Makers as these Bad
Boys once did. |
