(Mere - Griffin) on the bezel flanked by Sarmatian stylized Rooster
Faces crafted onto a Roman Officer designer ring. The reproduction is
from a Roman Sarmatian Auxiliary Fleet Legionary Stamp (for gold appliques)
and a Roman Sarmatian Legionary Auxiliary Apron Stud Circa 2nd Century
AD to 3rd Century AD. The fantastic creature the Gryphos - marine may
have been a symbol of the legendary ancestral marriage of the male Scythians
with the female warrior Amazons. According to Sarmatian legend their
people were the product of the Scythian Amazon marriage. The Griffin
was sacred to the Scythians and Harmonia the legendary mother of the
Amazons was a naiad, or nymph, of rivers and brooks.
